Goose Repellents that are Effective

Sunday, April 13, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

goose repellentDuring breeding season, the geese breed and lay about four to eight eggs at one time.  It takes approximately thirty days to incubate under the watchful eye of the mom and dad.  A mother goose in her lifetime will hatch up to fifty geese.  Geese are abundance and it is easy to realize why.

They can be quite a nuisance however.  If there is a water source, there will be geese.  Parks, airports, golf courses and many planned communities are in constant battle with the pest geese.  Geese love freshly manicured lawns.  They will graze on the plants, weeds and grass.  They will easily destroy the grassy area, and will leave in their wake a lot of droppings.  Goose droppings and most other bird droppings are known to carry over 60 transmittable diseases, and some of them are airborne.

Goose repellents should be installed where geese are rampant.  Geese droppings can pose a hazard to domestic animals as well as humans.  Cats can maneuver around the droppings on the grass naturally, but the dogs love to roll around in it and even eat it.  There was a study done by the CDC on a resident flock of Canada Geese in Georgia and North Carolina.  There was proof that antibiotic resistant E coli were carried by the geese.  It is obvious how one can be affected when the dog comes charging inside after rolling around on the grass laden with goose poop after what appears to be a safe time at the park.

There are many goose repellents that are humane and safe.  Liquid goose repellent is highly effective and very cost effective as well.  Liquid goose repellent is a non-toxic liquid that can be sprayed on the grass area and any shrubs.  The ingredient in the liquid goose repellent is a grape extract, Methyl Anthranilate.  This causes the mucous membranes and trigeminal nerves to be irritated, and they will not like it at all.  It will keep the geese off the grass, yet the area will still be safe for any domestic animals.

There are many choices of goose repellents.  There is also sound deterrents, motion activated sprinklers and coyote decoys to get rid of geese from your property.

Geese are Returning – Install Goose Control

Friday, April 11, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

goose repellentsIt is spring and the migratory geese are returning.  Grass and shrubs will be eaten until there is nothing left.  Well, what will be left is the mass of goose droppings all over the place.  They take the food, but they leave their fecal matter behind.  Goose control products are needed to take control of the goose problems.  Goose control methods are safe and humane and a great solution to get rid of geese from the area.

Goose Control Repellents

Geese graze and chomp on the grass and shrubs so the best way to deter them is by putting something on the area that will annoy them.  Migrate Goose Repellent will annoy the geese and make them leave the area but will not harm them or anyone else who comes in contact with this non-toxic liquid goose repellent.  The active ingredient in the liquid goose repellent is Methyl Anthranilate, which is a fancy term for a non-toxic grape extract.  This extract has proven to be effective in repelling pest birds including the geese.  The geese are annoyed because the extract irritates their trigeminal nerve and mucous membranes through the entry in their eyes, nose and mouth.  The birds dislike the sensation it causes and they will want to leave the area that is treated with the liquid repellent.

Another method to get rid of geese is a sound goose deterrent.  A solar powered scare tactic can deter geese from a few acres with additional speakers that are set up strategically.  Birds hear at the same level as humans so do not be deceived into buying an ultrasonic device.  The Solar Bird Chase Super Sonic is not ultrasonic, and this device features actual distress and predator calls of over 22 different types of birds, including the unwanted geese.  The goose control method is great for large areas such as parks, golf courses, cemeteries and sports fields to only name a few places.

Goose control products are simple to install, but if you have neither the time nor resources to install the goose deterrent products, there are wildlife and pest control professionals that offer advice and services.  The cost effectiveness of bird control outweighs the cost of damage and repair to lawns and fields.

Get Rid of Canada Geese in Parks

Saturday, April 5, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

get rid of geeseCanada geese can cause significant problems when there is no goose control in action.  Geese are sometimes year round invaders in parks and golf courses.  If there are resident geese around, goose control needs to be implemented all year long as well.  Geese will graze along the grass usually near a water source, but it is not only the grazing that is the issue.  More so, the issue is the droppings they leave in their wake.  Accumulated goose droppings can begin to contaminate the area, including the water.  There are many transmittable diseases that humans can catch from the droppings.  Installing goose control methods is a very cost effective way to get rid of geese from an area.

Goose control should include application of combined goose control methods.  It is the most effective way to get rid of geese.  There are experts out there who have successfully tested goose deterrent methods and there are reputable companies that sell these products.

Geese Control Methods

For large areas such as parks, a sound goose deterrent would work well.  Sound devices cover a large area, up to one acre, and additional acreage with added speakers that adapt to the devices.  This type of goose deterrent plays distress calls that alert the geese to danger.  When the geese hear the calls, their natural instinct to flee from danger is alerted and they leave the area.  The sound deterrent devices have an LCD display panel that shows the status and makes it very easy to read and use.   The devices can be programmed to play at different times.  The sound deterrent operates between 65-105 decibels.  Geese and most other birds hear at the same level as humans, so make sure you choose the sonic sound deterrent, not an ultrasonic sound unit.

Liquid goose repellent is another way to keep the geese off the grass.  Liquid goose repellent is a non-toxic substance that can be sprayed on the grass and shrubs.  The active ingredient in the goose repellent is Methyl Anthranilate, which is grape extract.  For some reason this extract irritates the bird’s trigeminal nerves and mucous membranes, and they do not like the sensation of the goose repellent and will fly away to find a more comfortable grazing ground.  This extract will not irritate or harm humans.

Are You Ready for the Spring Arrival of Canada Geese?

Monday, March 31, 2014 by Fran Prisco

canada gooseCanada geese are highly adaptable and settle in quickly to their surroundings. They can be up to six pounds heavier that ordinary geese, live as long as 20 years and produce many offspring. These big birds need plenty of fresh water, succulent vegetation, safe nesting areas and freedom from predators. They prefer to nest within 100 feet of open water (lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, etc.) and near large lawns of residential neighborhoods, corporate office campuses, golf courses and parks.

Unless you prepare for their spring arrival with effective and humane goose repellents, you can expect some costly headaches around your property. These include overgrazing of turfgrass leading to erosion problems; large accumulations of fecal material, creating a health risk; and degraded water quality due to fecal bacteria and elevated nitrogen and phosphorous concentrations.

Chasing geese, disturbing their nests, or using lethal means against them are largely ineffective and can be illegal. The preferred way to get rid of geese is by using non-lethal goose repellents. Here's what the professional bird control experts at Bird-B-Gone recommend:

The Scarecrow with a Brain

Bird-B-Gone Scarecrows are smart enough to instantly sense when geese enter their line of sight. Ideal for keeping geese from specific areas where they often gather, the Scarecrow’s motion sensor activates a harmless blast of water that scatters geese from the area. The Scarecrow connects to any standard water hose and covers an area up to 1,200 square feet. Install a few Scarecrows strategically around areas frequented by geese and say good-bye to your goose problem. Each Scarecrow’s sensitivity and coverage pattern is easily adjusted, and the devices stand guard day and night for up to 6 months, delivering as many as 3,000 firings on a single 9-volt battery.

The “Grape” Repellent

Bird-B-Gone’s Migrate Goose Repellent is a non-toxic chemical that turns grass into inedible food for geese.  Migrate’s active ingredient is a harmless grape extract called Methyl Anthranilate that irritates a goose’s trigeminal nerves and mucous membranes.  You won’t need a lot of Migrate, just apply it with a standard sprayer to areas where geese feed most often.

The Sound Solution

Bird-B-Gone’s Solar Bird Chase Super Sonic emits pre-recorded distress and predator calls that scare birds. It can be set to scare geese and convince them “nearby geese” are being attacked. These threatening birdcalls are broadcast for two minutes and repeated every 10 minutes. The Bird Chase device comes with a built-in speaker to cover an entire acre, and more speakers can be added to cover up to five acres.  And because it’s solar powered, you can easily place it wherever geese tend to gather. It also works on cloudy days. Designed for outdoor use, the Solar Bird Chase Super Sonic device is constructed of weather-resistant, UV-protected materials. You can control the volume and program the device to automatically shut off at night.

Get Rid of Geese these Three Ways

Wednesday, March 26, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

get rid of geeseGeese should not be allowed to graze on your lawn.  They can be destructive to your grass and contaminate any water source you might have on your property including a backyard pool.  It is not only their grazing and eating of the grass and seeds, but their droppings should be the largest concern.  With any form of goose control, the fresh droppings will be left behind which can cause slip and fall accidents.  Accumulate droppings also harbor diseases and bacteria.

The geese love freshly mowed lawns.  That is why your nicely manicured lawn attracts them.  This is why they are frequently seen in parks and golf courses.  Canada geese are particularly a concern near airports.  Geese have contributed to bird strikes and have been the cause of plane crashes.

There are safe and humane solutions on the market today that get rid of geese and other pest birds.  Implementing a combination of goose control methods is the most effective way to keep geese away from the yard.

Three Goose Control Products that Get rid of Geese

Sound deterrents are an effective way to keep geese away.  Large yards can benefit from the sound goose deterrents as they cover up to an acre of land.  Three acres can be covered with additional speakers.  There are solar sound units that play actual distress goose calls.  The geese will flee the area when they hear the warning calls.

Liquid goose repellent is another way to get rid of geese from your lawn.  The liquid goose repellent is a non-toxic liquid that can be sprayed on the lawn.  The active ingredient that keeps birds off the lawn is Methyl Anthranilate.  This ingredient is essentially a grape extract.  This extract causes the birds’ trigeminal nerves and mucous membranes to be irritated.  They will not like the sensation and immediately fly off to find another location.  The repellent lasts for three months and will not wash off with rain or watering.  It is safe for domestic animals and humans.

A visual goose deterrent such as a coyote decoy is another bird control product that will deter geese from the property.  The coyote decoy is a free standing life size image of the natural predator to the geese and ducks.  This will frighten the geese away.  The coyote decoys are made of weather resistant plastic.

These three methods of goose control will efficiently and effectively take care of the nuisance goose problem.

Want a Goose Free Spring? Goose Repellents Needed

Tuesday, March 25, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

goose repellentThe geese can be fun to watch.  Their flying V-formations are amazing.  Their mating rituals of chasing each other around are quite entertaining.  What is not so delightful is their eating all the grass seed and leaving behind goose droppings that harbor parasites and other insects and diseases.  The geese can eat up to a half of a pound of grass a day.  They can swiftly destroy lawns, greenbelts, parks and even golf courses.  If there is any type of water feature nearby your property, you are sure to find the geese very active in the area.  They can be intimidating also.  They oftentimes chase after small pets and children.

Great Goose Repellent Choices

There are great goose repellent choices that range from liquid repellents to sound deterrents that frighten and trick the birds into leaving the area.  Whatever goose repellent product you decide to use, use it appropriately so that it will work effectively and efficiently for the entire season.

A non-toxic liquid goose repellent can be sprayed on lawns to make the grass unpalatable to the geese.  This repellent is made from grape extract which is also known by the name Methyl Anthranilate.  This grape extract aggravates the senses of the geese, namely their mucous membranes and trigeminal nerves.  It is safe and humane, the birds simply do not like the feeling, and they will leave the area to find a more comfortable spot.  It is safe for domestic animals and children and will not cause them any discomfort at all.  It will not wash off when watering or if it rains.  It will last at least three months.  A gallon container is enough to effectively cover a 16,000 square feet area.

Another goose repellent that will work for a large area is the Solar Bird Chase Super Sonic.  It is a sound deterrent that broadcasts pre-recorded goose distress calls.  The distress calls will broadcast about every 10 minutes and it alerts the geese to danger.  They will want to avoid the area all together and move on to safer ground. A single device can cover up to an acre of land.  Additional speakers can be added to maximize the coverage to more acres.  The units are easy to program and can be turned off in the evenings if preferred.  There are over 22 different types of called recorded into the unit, so this one device has the ability to scare away many species of birds.

Three Effective Ways to Get Rid of Geese

Monday, March 24, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

get rid of geeseGetting rid of geese from your property should be a priority.  The geese can quickly be destructive by eating the grass and contaminating any water source, including the backyard pool.  Fresh droppings are slippery and can cause a fall, but accumulated droppings are more damaging in the long run.  The older droppings often harbor disease, bacteria and diseases and many of the diseases and such can be transmitted to humans.  The geese are attracted to freshly mowed lawns and water.  This is why they tend to gravitate towards parks and golf courses.  Airports are usually located around marsh land or open land with water, and they are considered a real nuisance at the airports, causing many bird spikes each year.

There are safe and humane resolutions on the market today that will get rid of geese and the problems they leave in their wake.  Combining a couple of goose control methods at once is the most effective way to keep birds away from the area, especially the nuisance Canada geese.

Three Goose Repellent Possibilities

  1. Liquid goose repellent is one way to get rid of geese from any grassy area.  Liquid goose repellent is a non-toxic liquid that can be sprayed on the ground.  The active ingredient that keeps birds off the lawn is Methyl Anthranilate.  This ingredient is actually a grape extract.  This extract causes the birds’ trigeminal nerves and mucous membranes to be irritated.  They will not like the feeling and immediately fly off to find another site to graze and poop on.  The repellent last for three months and will not wash off with rain or watering.  It is safe for domestic animals and humans.
  2. A visual goose deterrent such as a coyote decoy is another goose control method that will deter geese from the property.  The coyote decoy is life size imagine of the predator to the geese and ducks.  This will scare the geese away.  There are also visual deterrents such as flash tape and scare balloons.  Both of these will scare the geese away with the shiny reflective material they are made of.
  3. Sound goose deterrents are another way that is effective at keeping geese away.  Large areas can benefit from the sound goose deterrents as they cover up to an acre of land. More acres can be covered with additional speakers.

Any of these three goose control methods used together will effectively and efficiently stop the geese from making themselves at home on your property.

Goose Repellents – An Effective Way to Get Rid of Geese

Friday, March 21, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

goose repellentsPest birds, including geese, cause extensive property damage every year.  Millions of dollars is spent repairing what the pest birds and their droppings have damaged, with a lot of the expense also going to cleanup.  Effective goose repellents will stop parks, pools, fountains and golf courses from becoming contaminated by the nasty and messy droppings that the geese leave behind.  Geese are particularly notorious for causing the problem of contamination in public areas.  Other pest birds that leave their droppings behind are the pigeons, sparrows, grackles and crows.  There are many transmittable diseases that humans are susceptible to when they come in contact with the bird’s accumulated droppings.

Poisons and other deadly means to get rid of the geese and other pest birds is not an option, as it creates an additional risk to humans and domestic animals.  Also, many pest bird species are protected by local government and cannot be killed.  There are safe and humane methods that can be used to get rid of geese.

Safe Goose Repellents

There are non-lethal goose repellents that can be used in trees and on ledges, bushes and grass.  The liquid bird repellent is applied by a hand or pressure pray gun.  It is very easily applied and usually lasts up to three months outside.  The repellent will not wash off with watering or rain.   A safe goose repellent will be registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The liquid goose repellent is made from grape extract, Methyl Anthranilate, which irritates the birds’ trigeminal nerve and mucous membranes through the entry of the eyes, nose and mouth.  They do not like the feeling that the extract gives them.

Another means of protecting a large area of land or crops is a solar sound goose deterrent.  A sound deterrent is perfect for deterring geese from large open places.  Solar units can cover up to 3 acres when additional speakers are used.  The solar unit is easily programmed to broadcast actual goose distress calls at ten minute intervals.  When the geese hear the distress calls, their natural instinct will be to flee the area.  The sound deterrent is weather resistant and can be programmed to automatically shut off at night.

Whether a non-toxic liquid or sound goose repellent is used or a combination of the two, it will achieve the goal of getting rid of geese and their droppings.

Lake-Side Planned Communities need Goose Repellents

Saturday, March 15, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

goose repellentsWith the season of spring right around the corner, goose repellents are needed before the pest birds and pest geese arrive for the warm weather.  This is especially true for communities with man-made or natural lakes.  Geese can raise quite a ruckus at the shorelines and interfere with people’s picnics and swim time.  Geese are responsible for about 4 pounds of droppings each day. Goose droppings can become hazardous if they are left to accumulate.  When the dried droppings are disturbed, there is a dust like substance that carries over 60 transmittable diseases to humans.  The feces will contaminate the grassy areas and the water. Instituting proper goose repellent strategies within the community will lessen the health and nuisance issues they present.

Community maintenance teams need to be aware of this so that goose repellents can be put into action before spring arrives and way before the geese arrive.  It does not need to be a difficult task to keep the geese away.  There are many safe and humane ways to get rid of the geese.  The geese are only following their instincts of finding food, water and shelter and a safe place to reproduce.  Effective goose repellents will simply have them flying on by to find a more lucrative area to fulfill their natural instincts.

Effective Goose Repellents

Geese have keen hearing and eyesight, so why not use sound and visual deterrents to scare them away.  Geese identify visual and sound repellents as a threat and they will be flying away in fear.

There are different goose repellent products to choose from.  Visual repellents include scare balloons and flash tape.  Flash tape will make a crinkling sound in the breeze and give off flashes of sunlight off the reflective surface of the tape that creates an optical distraction zone making the geese very uncomfortable. They will want to fly away from the area.  Scare balloons have decals on the sides of the balloon of large predator eyes that will make the geese believe they are coming in contact with a predator.  It is always suggested that the repellents be applied before the geese flock to and invade an area.  The visual goose repellents need to be moved from time to time so that the geese do not become resistant to them.

Sound deterrents scare geese away by broadcasting actual recordings of goose distress calls and predator calls.  The solar sonic repellents are easy to program and easy to use.  Maintenance crews will have no trouble at all getting rid of geese if they have these effective goose control products to implement.

Goose Control that is Effective Yet Humane

Friday, March 14, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

goose repellentNever undervalue the necessity for humane and effective goose control.  There have been lawsuits in federal court where employees have been attacked by geese.  One such lawsuit was from a man at a receiving yard.  He was awarded over $70,000.  This could have been avoided had goose control been in place.

The geese are enticed by large ponds, seashores, rivers, reservoirs and man-made lakes.  The geese are known to return where they are born, that is why effective goose control methods are needed.  You may think they are flying away, but they will return.  Without proper goose control measures in place huge flocks of geese will be able to lay claim to an area.  But one of the problems of this is that they leave behind disease-carrying droppings in the water and grassy areas where they graze.

Goose Repellent to the Rescue

Solar goose repellents are ingenious devices to use the goose’s natural fear of predators to scare them away.  Solar goose repellents broadcast actual distress and predator calls.  They cover an acre of land and with additional speakers one solar repeller can cover up to five acres.  Make sure to choose a solar sound goose repellent that plays actual calls of the birds and not ultrasonic noises, as birds hear at the same level as humans and ultrasonic sounds do not deter the pest birds including geese.

Another affordable, humane and effective way to get rid of geese is to use a chemical goose repellent spray.  There is a non-toxic spray that can be applied to shorelines, parks, golf courses, cemeteries and any shrubs or landscape where geese are congregating.  The spray is a non-toxic substance that makes the area unpalatable to the geese so they move on to a more comfortable area.  The active ingredient in the spray is a grape extract.  The extract is safe but it irritates the bird’s trigeminal nerve and mucous membranes through entry in the nose, mouth and eyes.  It is perfectly safe for humans and pets and the geese.

The spray is easily applied using most commercially available hand-held sprayers.  The spray will last for up to three months, and that includes any rain and normal watering of the area.  Get rid of geese once and for all with the liquid goose repellent or the solar goose sound repellents.

Bird Repellent Choices for the Backyard

Tuesday, March 11, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

bird repellentBird repellents that are environmentally friendly, cost effective, safe and humane are the right choices in bird control for your backyard.  You want to make it as safe and easy as possible to get rid of the birds.  Harming the birds is not a good option and in most cases it would be illegal.  The Migratory Bird Treaty Act protects most migratory birds from being hunted, killed, capture and sold.

Some of the birds that are listed on protected migratory birds are Downey Woodpeckers, sparrows, crows and Canada Geese.  These are a few of the birds who can wreak havoc in your backyard as well.  The woodpeckers and geese are interesting birds and often fun to watch.  But the damage they can cause if left unchecked is not quite so entertaining.  Millions of dollars is spent each year on repairing what the pest birds have damaged.  Thankfully, there is woodpecker control and goose repellents that will get rid of these pests and a bird control method for about every species that causes problems.

How to Choose Bird Repellents

To pick the most effective bird repellent, first determine the culprit, and then the area around the home that they are roosting and nesting. Protecting the garden is essential so the birds do not get to it before you have a chance to pick the ripe berries and vegetables.  Are the fruit trees infested with roosting birds?  Garden bird netting would be the choice.  Garden bird netting blocks the birds from reaching the fruit.  Garden bird netting can even help protect areas such as the eaves of the home, rooftops, balconies and garages.  Woodpecker netting would help save the side of the home from the woodpecker’s incessant drumming.

If you have a large backyard, and if there is any kind of water source, the Canada Geese will be sure to find your location very easily.  An effective goose deterrent can be a solar sound device that broadcasts the distress and predator calls through speakers around the yard.  This will get rid of geese and keep them away.

Adding other visual scare tactics alongside the bird netting and sound deterrents is advised.  This will keep the birds, any birds, from getting use to one particular bird control method.

Get Rid of Geese Before They Try To Move In

Monday, March 10, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

get rid of geeseThe life cycle for geese begins later winter.  Goose couples pair up and begin to return to their previous nesting places.  Waters are opening up at this time usually.  Any non-breeding geese will remain nearby in flocks for feeding during this time as well.  Canada geese have a very strong inclination to return year after year to the place they were born, to the same feeding and nesting spots.  If you had geese last year, you can be sure to expect them this year unless you implement goose repellents that will keep your property free from the geese and their nasty and hazardous droppings.

There is a choice in the way that you get rid of geese.  If you have resident geese, a combination of methods is encouraged.  Geese that have been in urban areas have adapted and gotten use to humans and they are not as fearful as they should be.

Two Goose Repellent Choices

A goose deterrent that uses sound is very effective for large open spaces.  There are sound goose deterrents that broadcast goose-distress calls.  The calls are played at ten minute intervals and this alerts the geese that there is danger and they will want to fly away to a safer spot.  A solar powered sonic unit covers an acre of space.  With additional speakers, three acres can be covered and protected from the nuisance geese.   The units have an LCD display panel that is easy to program and read.  It is constructed of a rigid material that is U.V. protected and is sun and weather resistant and made for long lasting outdoor use.

Another type of method that is an effective goose repellent is a motion activated sprinkler.  The sprinkler hooks up to an average garden hose.  There is an infrared motion sensor that senses the larger pest bird such as geese.  It detects them from 35 feet away.  Once the geese are sensed, the sprinkler instantly releases a spray of water.  The water spray will scare the geese away in fear.  They will remember the burst of water and will not want to return to the area.  This repellent also keeps the crows and pigeons away.  The motion activated sprinkler works day and night.  A nine volt battery will keep this bird deterrent in action for at least six months.

The simple use of sound and water will keep geese away from your property.  Both products are safe and humane and will not harm the birds or any other animal or persons who come in contact with the goose repellents.

The Business of Controlling Canada Geese

Saturday, March 8, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

goose controlThere are children’s games where they run around and tap each other on the head yelling “Duck, Duck, Goose”.  You start running after each other when you say “goose”.  This may have started because geese are known to chase after people when they are feeling threatened.  They are a fairly aggressive fowl and can be quite intimidating, especially for a child.

If you are experiencing Canada Geese on your property, it is a good idea to deter them, especially if you are a business owner and the general public may come in contact with the nuisance geese.  It might not be good for business to see anyone running and yelling “goose”.  Goose control issues occur in lawns, parks, golf courses and camping sights to name a few.  In all areas the serious problem is the health concerns that can come about from the droppings.  Geese feces can carry different types of bacteria, diseases and parasites.  They can contaminate water and the grassy areas where the geese graze and bathe.

Safe and Humane Goose Control

There are a couple of safe, humane and easily implemented goose control products that will get rid of geese.  There is a liquid goose repellent and a sound deterrent that both work at keeping geese out of the area.  If there area is contained and somewhat smaller, the liquid goose repellent would be ideal.  It is applied anywhere that the geese are a nuisance.  One gallon can cover 16,000 square feet.  It lasts up to three months even if there is rain or watering occurring.  It works by giving the geese an unpleasant sensation that goes through their nose, mouth and eyes.  It does not harm the geese, just persuades them to go elsewhere.  The active ingredient in the liquid repellent is a grape extract.  It is not harmful to anything or anyone else.

For larger areas a sound goose deterrent is suggested.  There are solar sonic goose deterrents that cover an acre of land and with additional speakers even more coverage.  The sound deterrent device works by programming it for geese.  It then will broadcast distress calls and predator calls designed specifically to scare away geese.  There are over 22 different types of species programmed into the devices.  Since birds hear at the same level as humans, ultrasonic devices that are currently on the market will not deter the birds.  But the sonic devices will.  With solar power, even during the dark times or cloudy days, the device will keep working to deter the geese.  When they hear the calls they will flee the area.

Effective Goose Repellents to Use for Private and Public Properties

Wednesday, March 5, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

goose repellentsMillions of dollars is spent each year on the clean-up and repair from the damage to private and public property from the pest bird.  This includes parks, pools, fountains, golf courses and any other property that has a water source and a grassy area to graze when it comes to the pest geese.  Geese feces are known to contaminate the waters as well as the grass areas.  Humans are at risk when there is a large amount of accumulated bird droppings.  There are many diseases and bacteria that can be transmitted to humans through the feces.  The droppings also harbor molds and parasites.

Lethal methods to get rid of geese such as poisons do not need to be considered with so many other methods available on the market.  Many pest birds are protected under local and government laws and treaties.  A good bird control company can help guide you to the right goose repellent that will be effective for your particular problem.  There are many safe and humane products to choose from.

Non-Lethal Goose Repellent Choices

There are non-lethal chemical goose repellents that can be used on the grass and shrubs.  There is a liquid goose repellent that can be applied using a hand or pressure spray gun.  The repellent will not wash off when the area is watered or if it rains.  The liquid goose repellent is registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, so you can feel confident it is safe.  This non-toxic goose repellent is made from a grape extract.  It has been proven that geese do not like the sensation of the extract.  It bothers their mucous membranes and trigeminal nerve but does not harm them in anyway.

A good resource that protects large areas of land or crops is a solar sound deterrent.  A sound deterrent is ideal for deterring geese from big open spaces.  Solar units can cover up to 3 acres of land.  The solar unit is programmed to broadcast goose distress calls at various intervals.  When the geese hear the distress calls, their natural instinct will be to flee the area.  The solar unit is weather resistant and can be programmed to automatically shut off at night.

Liquid goose deterrents and solar units, or best yet, a combination of both will solve the problem and get rid of the geese and their droppings.

A Better Bird and Goose Repellent than Ultrasonic Bird Control

Monday, March 3, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

goose repellentSome pest control companies will advertise the effectiveness of an ultrasonic bird control product.  Do not be deceived.  There is no scientific evidence that the ultrasonic devices work on birds.  Birds cannot hear the high frequency noises just like humans cannot.  In fact, the pigeon, for instance is a notorious pest bird for businesses and they actually hear lower frequency sounds than people.  Do not waste money on ultrasonic bird scaring devices.  Invest in other effective forms of bird control.

Effective Bird Control Devices

There are other sound bird repellents that are effective on pest birds, including geese.  The Solar Bird Chase Supersonic is not an ultrasonic device.  It plays actual distress calls and predator calls of over 20 types of birds, including the geese.  The sounds can be heard by humans, and they are played every 10 minutes.  The sound can be adjusted, and it can be programmed to turn off at night.  When the birds hear the distress calls, their natural instincts will cause them to flee the area.  The solar supersonic unit uses sustainable solar energy.  It comes with rechargeable batteries for operation during nighttime settings as well.  There is an easy to ready LCD display panel that will show the status and user settings at all times.  It is constructed of rigid, U.V. protected materials and made for a long outdoor life. To fully charge the batteries it needs to be in the sun for approximately 8 full hours.  Then turn on, and away the pest birds go.

Visual bird deterrents are another route to go, or a great additional to any other bird control method.  Visual bird deterrents are used to frighten birds away from an area.  They use a common scare trigger such as a predator feature.  Another trigger for the bird is shiny and reflective items.  The visual bird deterrents use both scare triggers.  There are scare balloons that are the size of an average beach ball that have predator markings and the material is shiny.  There is also a tape that has a shiny reflective surface.  Both can be hung on the sides of the building, on posts near crops or around the edge of the water sources.

Save your money on the ultrasonic devices and other gimmicks.  Rely on professionally tested and proven forms of bird and goose repellents.

Humane Goose Control for Canada Geese

Monday, February 24, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

goose control

Wherever there are Canada Geese and no goose control there are goose droppings.  The goose droppings are the main problem that many have with the otherwise harmless waterfowl.

Killing an entire flock is not humane and in many locations would not and should not be an option.  It would only be a temporary fix anyways, as it just creates space for a new flock to just move on in.  Geese should not be harmed just for doing what comes naturally to them, especially when humane, effective solutions are out there that will get rid of geese.

The humane way to scare geese away is to do this before there are any flightless goslings.  Also before any molting and nesting behaviors are going on.  Right as the snow is beginning to melt, way before spring hits and any mating is happening.

Goose Control Needs Planning

There is a chemical goose control as an option that will discourage geese from an area.  The liquid goose control sprays can be applied to grass areas where the geese like to graze.  The active ingredient in the liquid goose control is a grape extract called Methyl Anthranilate.  It is a non-toxic food grade liquid that has been proven to be effective in repelling the geese from outdoor areas.  It works well on geese because they do not like the sensation that irritates their trigeminal nerve and mucous membranes through entry in the mouth, nose and eyes.  They do not like the sensation and will want to stay away from the treated area.

Visual scare balloons can be used alongside the liquid goose control.  The scare balloons use a mock predator eye design to frighten birds away.  Scare balloons are a low cost secondary deterrent to go along with the liquid goose deterrent or other methods such as a motion activated sprinkler and sound deterrents.  The balloons can be placed in front of the area where the geese are a problem.  They mock predator eye and the shiny surface of the balloon will keep the geese at bay.

Geese are intelligent enough to figure out when something does not pose a real threat, so movement and placement of the balloons should very from time to time, and interchanging methods from time to time will keep the goose control fresh and effective.

Bird Control Keeps Birds off the Roof

Friday, February 21, 2014 by Kathy Fritsch

bird controlPest birds will degrade your rooftop if there are no bird control products in place to stop them.  The reason to keep them off the roof is because of their acidic droppings.  The droppings can destroy most building materials including paint, wood, canvas and even metals.  The nasty and dirty droppings and nesting materials can also clog vents and drains.  The worst case scenario is the roof will cave in from the weight of the droppings.  There are documented cases of this happening.  Each pigeon, for example, poops about every 15 minutes.  This could add up when there are a flock of pigeons on the roof over a period of time.

Along with the pigeon poop being caustic, there are health issues to be concerned about.  Pest birds and their droppings carry over 60 known diseases that can be transmitted to humans.  When the droppings are disturbed or go through a venting system, they release spores that have the diseases in the spores.  They can be breathed in through the nose or mouth.  This is a huge danger to your health and especially so if anyone in the household has immune compromised issues.

3 Forms of Bird Control

Bird Spikes are a great physical bird deterrent that can be placed around the parameter of the rooftop where the birds like to perch and look out onto the yard.  Bird spikes come in stainless steel or plastic spikes.  The plastic spikes come in an array of colors to match the trim or paint on the home.  When the spikes are present, the larger pest birds such as a pigeon cannot land where they are installed.  The spikes can be applied to the chimney cap as well.

Visual scare deterrents are another type bird control product that will keep birds off the roof.  There are scare balloons and diverters.  There are also products that can be placed on top of the roof that have long rods that are in constant motion as if they are sweeping the birds off the roof.  There are solar repellers as well as those that move with the breeze.  These are spider-like devices that are inexpensive and very effective.

Sound deterrents are also effective for keeping birds off the roof.  Sound deterrents play the actual distress and predator calls from over 22 different species of birds.  The pest birds on the roof hear the calls and they will fly away to get away from danger.

Best Goose Control Practices

goose controlGetting rid of the geese problem on your property takes a strategic approach.  Goose control requires an integrated approach using multiple strategies working together to smite the long-necked nuisance bird.  The migratory geese that are looking for a safe breeding site in spring are more easily dealt with than the resident geese.  But both can be deterred from making your lawn their grazing site.

Goose Control Product Options

Visual goose control options are a great place to start.  Mylar flash tape is very inexpensive and creates an uncomfortable visual distraction for the geese and other pest birds.  It creates a bright reflection when the sun hits it and makes an odd sound when it blows in the breeze.  Be sure to move the tape around from time to time to make sure the geese do not get used to it in one spot.

Other visual deterrents include scare balloons and tear-shaped diverters.  They can be hung around the property to distract the geese.  The balloons can be attached to a post and planted around a pond to them out of it.  They can be hung near the garden to keep them from trampling your plants and grazing on them.

The natural predator of the geese is a coyote.  There are coyote decoys that will scare the geese away as well as ducks and other large pest birds.  The birds will come across the decoy and fly away in fear.  This is another type of goose control product that is best when moved around from time to time.

Migrate Goose Repellent is another way to ensure your lawn is free from the wandering geese.  This bird control product is a non-toxic liquid spray.  The active ingredient is simply a grape extract.  The grape extract irritates the bird’s trigeminal nerves and mucous membranes.  They do not like the sensation and will want to leave the area.  The liquid goose control spray will stay effective for three months and will not wash off with water or when it rains.

Using a couple of these goose control products together will increase the effectiveness and keep the geese far away from your lawn and family.

Liquid Goose Repellent that is Safe

goose repellentCanada Geese are the type of geese that most people buy goose repellent for.  The Canada Geese flock to golf courses, parks, wetlands, marshes and residential homes near lakes.  The geese are prolific breeders and there will be a whole gaggle of geese in a very short amount of time.  The gaggle of geese that you often see on the lawns is very bothersome for homeowners.  Bird droppings are the main reason you want to get rid of the geese from your property.  Droppings are actually hazardous and not something you want to bring inside with your shoes.  Goose droppings and most other bird’s droppings are very acidic in nature as well.  They can stain cement and just about any other surface.  If the droppings are allowed to accumulate they can destroy the surface.  The droppings also harbor disease and parasites.  This is why goose repellents are needed.

Liquid Goose Repellent

Liquid goose repellent is a safe bird control product to use to get rid of geese.  The liquid is non-toxic and will repel the geese without contaminating the grass area with chemicals.  The active ingredient in the liquid goose repellent is Methyl Anthranilate.  It is actually a grape extract that has been proven to be effective at repelling pest geese from treated areas.  The grape extract irritates the geese trigeminal nerve and their mucous membranes through their eyes, mouth and nose.  The geese do not like the sensation of the extract and will want to get away from the area.  The application of the goose repellent lasts up to three months and will not wash away with rain or watering.  It’s an ideal goose repellent for areas where people hang around because it is not harmful in any way to humans or domestic animals.  It is sold by the gallon, and one gallon will treat 16,000 square feet.  Compared to the damage that geese and their droppings can create, the liquid goose repellent is very cost effective.

There are other various methods to get rid of geese that can be used in backyards as well as public areas.  There are motion-activated sprinkler devices, visual and sound deterrents that work to deter and frighten the geese away.

Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort Had Pest Bird Problems

Monday, January 27, 2014 by Fran Prisco

pest bird problemLast year, a visitor to the Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort on Mauritius Island, Mauritius loved his stay but did have one major gripe: pest birds in the dinning area. Most of the staff was very helpful and friendly, the rooms were very clean, and the golf course was first class.

The problem occurred at mealtime, where the guest advised caution. Seems there were wild birds flying all around in the dinning areas. As soon as he left his table to go to the buffet for food, the birds swooped down on the tables and pecked away at any food that may have been left there. To make matters worse, the birds left their droppings all over the tables and chairs. This happened to the guest on his first day. He sat down on his chair and bird droppings covered the back of his clean shirt and trousers. What a mess.

Could a nice resort like the Heritage Awali have prevented such a disappointing incident?  Bird control experts think so. Here’s what they recommend to keep pest birds out of open beachside dining areas:

Plastic Bird Spikes

Large, brazen birds like gulls and pigeons need a place to perch before they dive in on a table. Plastic Bird Spikes are the anti-perching, anti-roosting bird deterrents that have proven their value time and again in denying birds that initial landing zone. Birds simply can’t negotiate a landing on or near these spikes. Used by commercial applications worldwide, plastic bird spikes are less expensive than their stainless steel counterparts, but they get the job done. They’re non-conductive, too, so you can use them around cell phone and other RF antennas without worries about interference. The best plastic bird spikes are made of rigid UV-resistant unbreakable polycarbonate. These resist weathering and sun exposure and remain effective for years. Incidentally, high quality bird spikes are blunted at the tips, so they won’t harm birds or installation crews. Today’s high quality plastic bird spikes also come in a variety of colors—including crystal clear, brick red, light grey, brown, black and tan—to blend in naturally with your resort.

Bird Chase Super Sonic

Ideal for protecting large outdoor areas and patios from pest birds, the Bird Chase Super Sonic emits bird distress and predator calls that birds find threatening. This device won’t irritate people or pets because it emits sounds that resemble normal birdcalls. The versatile Bird Chase unit emits distress and predator calls for 22 different species of birds. So no matter what bird is annoying your guests, you’ll have the power to repel them. The unit has a built-in speaker and will drive away pigeons, crows, starlings, swallows, gulls, woodpeckers, sparrows, grackles, cormorants and many other birds. There’s even a volume control to limit its output and you can program it to turn on or off at night.
